Times Square New Year’s Eve 2023
Overview
One of the most recognized live events in the world, the Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball Drop draws hundreds of thousands in person and millions more through global broadcast.
As Production Manager, I led operational execution across staging, broadcast infrastructure, vendor coordination, and city agency alignment within one of the most complex and highly secured event environments in the United States.
The Mandate
Deliver a seamless, globally televised celebration while safely managing one of the largest public gatherings in the country — with zero margin for error.
Midnight is not flexible. The broadcast is live.
Scope
Multi-stage broadcast infrastructure
Large-scale technical and camera integration
Citywide security perimeters
Coordination with NYPD, FDNY, and municipal agencies
Overnight builds in winter conditions
Thousands of crew and contracted personnel
Times Square effectively becomes a temporary broadcast campus — and must return to normal city operations within hours
Leadership
I served as a central operational lead across production departments, vendors, and municipal partners, ensuring alignment between creative vision and executional precision.
Responsibilities included:
Overseeing staging and technical logistics
Managing build schedules and vendor coordination
Aligning production plans with city compliance requirements
Synchronizing run-of-show timing across multiple performance areas
Maintaining real-time communication between field teams and executive stakeholders
The focus: clarity, structure, and proactive risk management.
Execution Strategy
Success depended on disciplined planning and layered contingency systems:
Zoned credentialing and access control
Weather-responsive infrastructure planning
Redundant technical pathways for broadcast continuity
Cross-agency operational briefings
Precision timing synchronization across departments
Every element was engineered around timing — because live broadcast does not allow recovery.
Outcome
Flawless live execution
Safe delivery of one of the largest public gatherings in the U.S.
On-schedule infrastructure build and strike
Sustained sponsor and broadcast integrity
Global reach in the millions
The event concluded without major operational disruption — a testament to disciplined preparation and collaborative leadership.
Reflection
This project exemplifies my ability to operate at global scale under intense visibility and pressure.
At this level, production is not about spectacle — it is about structure, foresight, and leadership that holds steady when the world is watching.
